Reflecting upon our relationship with this world is important to ensure our ultimate destination in the afterlife is where we want to be. God reminds us to be aware of ourselves in this world and conscious of the possibilities of the next, teaching us the words to protect us from demise: “Our Lord! Avert from us the punishment of Hell. Verily, its punishment is continuous. Verily, it is the worst abode to be in.”
[25: 65-66]
وَالَّذِينَ يَقُولُونَ رَبَّنَا اصْرِفْ عَنَّا عَذَابَ جَهَنَّمَ إِنَّ عَذَابَهَا كَانَ غَرَامً
إِنَّهَا سَاءَتْ مُسْتَقَرًّا وَمُقَامً
wa-alladhīna yaqūlūna rabbanā iṣ'rif ʿannā ʿadhāba jahannama inna ʿadhābahā kāna gharāma. innahā sāat mus'taqarran wamuqāma
